This is what working as a member of Commie Capital looks like.

Commie Capital first and foremost is a team. We are a team which depend upon one another for success. Our team is welcoming and built upon trust, mutual understanding, alignment of values and goals, being open-minded, selflessness, and kindness.

Members have access to all of the research and information created and collected by each member. The results of hundreds of hours modeling options trades on SPY in Python using genetic algorithms? The results and subsequent trading strategy is available to all members. Not only that, but members are encouraged to speak to other members about their previous work, methods, and findings. Members are also encourage to try to redo or complete the work of other members.

All of our datasets are shared, all of our code is shared, all of our notes from expensive analysts, books, research articles are all shared. And as an integral part of our culture, we love to answer the questions of any member and explain anything they may want to know.

Members communicate regularly with each other, sharing new information, ideas, and the results of their research. Members also work in smaller teams to tackle research projects together. There is regular checkups with members to ensure they are receiving enough support and resources for their work. Members are encouraged to speak up and make their voice heard when they feel the need to do so.

These are some of the roles within Commie Capital

You are a coder. You work alongside data scientists and financial advisor to back test trading strategies or create trading models. You communicate regularly with the financial advisor who makes sure you are coding the trading strategies correctly and realistically. The data scientist helps code the complicated modelling functions and you work with them to understand what it returns and how to use it. You use their functions for the trading you have written and then work together with the data scientist to check for bugs. You then work together to improve the model and find an optimal trading strategy centered around the idea of the project.

You are a financial advisor. You have always been more quantitative and empirical in your approaches, unwilling to trust the words written in financial magazines or the adages spoken by advisors of old. You have theorized plenty of potentially effective trading strategies, but you’ve yet to back test them due to lack of know-how. With your team, you talk about these strategies and work with our database managers to find the data you need to test your theories. You then explain the logic of your theories to a programmer and data scientist who will help bring the tests to life. You work with them, helping them code the financial pieces correctly. You ensure that the code exercises a short call by buying at the strike and selling at current market prices.

You are young without much experience or expertise and you want to start developing your skills and knowledge. You work with financial advisors, database managers, and data scientist to help collect unique and specific data for the team’s experiments and models. They explain what data you need to collect and how that data is going to be used. You learn about the theory behind the trading strategy while seeing first-hand how these models are put together.

These are some examples of how are team members perform. If you think you can bring value to our team, then apply, explain how, and create what you envision.
